ABOUT THE FILM
Co-written and directed by Filipino filmmaker Yam Laranas, Aurora is supernatural drama with strong thriller elements. The story follows Leanna (Anne Curtis), who lives peacefully on an island with her younger sister Rita (Phoebe Villamor). Their life takes a turn for the worse when the eponymous passenger ship Aurora crashes near their island. The movie premiered at the Metro Manila Film Festival on December 25, 2018.
ABOUT THE SCORE
Given the fact that they had previously worked together, Oscar got on board on Aurora quite early on. In fact, the movie was tempted with his music after he sent over a couple of his own cues and demos based on the director’s brief. Though these pieces made up the foundation of the score, in terms of tempo and mood, the rewrote everything to match the new themes and instrumentation. As he recalls: “Early on we talked about writing a requiem for the (many) people that die in the fatal boat accident that is central in the films story. It was a lot of fun and a great challenge to turn that idea into a real thing, a device that I could use throughout the score. I adapted and rewrote part of the classical lyrics from the requiem mass and had it performed by a choir.”
